That may continue to be the case for the foreseeable future, but I want to let everyone know that their support has been appreciated. Tabitha's Review of the last STEAL THIS SHOW:

This past Steal This Show at Connie's Ric Rac was craaaaaaazy! Not only was it Friday the 13th, but it was Valentine's Day Eve. We had sketches by The Pippens, standup comedy by Meg Favreau and Dave Walk, and a very special story from Beverly, the southern middle-aged lady who loves cats.

Corey hosted the show, as usual, and he read strange "inspirational messages" from a book written by a stoned hippie. Words to remember, "Are bugs special?" Chew on that.

We were treated to Pat Kelly's famous quiz show at this past show. This time his contestants were a bit more cooperative, perhaps because they were from South Jersey. Pat asked hard-hitting questions like "What is your favorite slang word for vagina?" The guests didn't go home empty handed, either, they were all rewarded with fantastic dollar store toys.

Tabitha and Nora performed as the musical duo Sava and Songo, Siberian refugee twins. They sang about trains, tacos, and also played a Nancy Sinatra cover. Its almost impossible to tell them apart, they're that alike.

Jason Vorhees kills, and Jason Messina KILLED. This was truly a treat - a rare chance to see the infamous star of Friday the 13th let loose and talk about stuff that irks him. Seinfeld, eat your heart out!

Emily and Micah closed the show with The McGraw Music Machine, performing a new song about tazers (did you know that they are illegal in Philly, but nowhere else?) and a hit song about their cat, Regis, and his shady past. Keep your whiskers clean, boy, and your tail held high.

Brian and Paul of Secret Pants played "Bush or Batman?" with Corey's parents. His mom won. Go Harriet!

The fancy NYC comics that Corey allegedly booked dropped out. Luckily we had some great jokes from Joey and Annie!

Tabitha did some "Standup Jazzedy".

Emily helped increase everyone's awareness of RUNTS, better known as "genital terrors", as The Wine Diva. Cheers!

Jason made a RUNTS video, and Corey creepily loomed in the background.

The heat in the Ric Rac was broken, so everyone was very cold. It was like the olden times. Corey then attempted to give away his baby, Keanu, as a prize to the Feeko Brothers.

His wife was not happy. Yes, Corey is dressed as Captain Jean Luc Picard.

Friends,

As 2008 draws to a close, I look back on the year and realize it really ate shit, up until the end. But then, all at once, this year became incredible, groundbreaking, time-changing! The Phillies win, Obama wins, hope is restored, and then, when it seems it couldn't possibly get any better, Steal This Show comes with a hard left and knocks this city right in the dick.

Now, 2009 is fast approaching, and we must ask, can we maintain this awesomeness?

Well I can gaurantee one thing: In these hard times, Steal This Show will be there. We will be there January 16th and February 13th with laughs to spare. We will pass guffaws to the needy, chuckles to the less fortunate, and tears of joy to all the girls and boys.

Make 2009 the year you say, "Yes, I can go to Steal This Show. Yes, I can bring my own beer. Yes, I can laugh."

Time was, our sports teams never won, cultural references were nowhere to be found and parts of the city looked like rotting corpses.

Philadelphia has long been the butt of a joke that everyone was laughing at but us. But with a revitalized film industry, a new mayor, an emboldened youth population and the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphians are ready for some laughs of our own.

And finding one has never been easier. FX's It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is a national sensation. And with clubs like Helium and the Laff House drawing national acts and comedy troupes eschewing the normal career path of New York/L.A. wannabes for hometown hero status, Philly is phunny. And its comedians are ready to prove it.

No one knows the dues-paying, pavement-pounding struggle of hustling yuks to a city that often has a tough time laughing at itself better than Corey Cohen. As a member of The Sixth Borough, he and his mates explored Philly's identity crisis, provincial nature and tough edge with raucous sketches and performances on stages across the city. Now Cohen is back, contributing the newest addition to the burgeoning Philly alt-comedy scene, Steal This Show.

Cohen's bi-monthly comedy revue contains appearances by stand-up comedians, sketch comedians, musicians, and even a quiz show. And all for just $5. The everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach should suit potential attendees just fine, as they are likely to get more bang for their buck.

And what better place to poke fun at Philly's gruff, housecoat-wearing homers than Connie's Ric Rac, the first art house to hit the Italian Market. As everyone knows, the Italian Market is where Philly stereotypes reside; a neighborhood full of pride, soul and unintended irony. In short, the place is rife for parody.

Started as an electronics store and later used as a storage space, Connie's Ric Rac has since become the doing of Connie's son. More an artistic collective than a performance space, the Ric Rac hosts seminars for would-be comedians, musicians and artists. With Steal This Show, the Ric Rac brings nightlife to a neighborhood decidedly low on performance-based entertainment. And with a $5 price tag, BYOB rules and a shared refrigerator in place of a liquor license, it does so in true South Philly style.

If you are happy being the butt of the joke from Staten Island to San Francisco, then by all means, forget we had this talk. But if you are ready to see Philly draw some laughs of our very own, come out to the Ric Rac this Friday, Nov. 28. Help put Philly on the comedy map once more.
